The beliefs, traditions, and lifestyle of the Amish both fascinate and baffle those of us who live outside their communities.  Many of our opinions of the Amish are based upon the images we see on television and in the movies, and we rarely get the opportunity to look deeper into the complex lifestyle of this unique culture.

We often wonder how the Amish can live a truly enjoyable life without the modern conveniences we rely on in our society such as computers, televisions, cell phones and automobiles. And yet, many times, the things we consider helpful only seem to complicate and frustrate our hectic lives.  At these times, it is tempting to envy the simplicity that is the root of the Amish lifestyle.

    Of course, to truly appreciate Amish country, you should visit with the people, view the countryside, and taste their wonderful food! Because we can’t all make time for that, we thought we would share some pictures that were taken during our last trip to Illinois and Ohio Amish country. We hope these snapshots will serve as a small introduction into the culture of these amazing people, and that you will begin to fall in love with the gentle lifestyle of the fine craftsmen whose furniture we are proud to offer.
